Background information

  • Inequality, also known as social inequality, refers to "Unequal rewards or opportunities for different individuals within a group or groups within a society." (Scott 2014:352)
  • Inequality is a key feature of capitalism. 
  • "Inequality is the price to be paid for the dynamic economic growth that is characteristics of capitalism." (Friedrich, cited in Scott 2014:352) 


For this discussion, we would like to focus five main area, in relation to inequality:

  • Class
  • Ethnicity
  • Age
  • Disability
  • Sexuality
